Research Overview
MK-677, also known as Ibutamoren, is a potent, selective, orally-active growth hormone secretagogue and ghrelin receptor agonist. This non-peptide research compound stimulates growth hormone (GH) release through activation of the ghrelin receptor (GHSR), mimicking the endogenous hormone ghrelin.
Originally developed by Reverse Pharmacology and later acquired by Merck, MK-677 has been extensively studied in preclinical and clinical research settings for its effects on growth hormone pulsatility, IGF-1 levels, and various metabolic parameters in controlled laboratory environments.
Research Applications
GH/IGF-1 Axis Studies
Laboratory research examines MK-677's stimulation of pulsatile growth hormone secretion and sustained elevation of IGF-1 levels in various experimental models without affecting cortisol levels.
Metabolic Research
Preclinical studies investigate effects on nitrogen balance, basal metabolic rate, and body composition parameters in controlled research environments.
Bone Density Models
Research protocols examine markers of bone turnover, osteoblast activity, and mineral density in laboratory settings focused on skeletal biology.
Sleep Architecture Studies
Clinical research has investigated effects on REM sleep duration and sleep quality parameters in various study populations.
Specifications
Storage & Handling
Store powder form at room temperature in a cool, dry place protected from light and moisture. MK-677 mesylate is relatively stable as a powder and does not require refrigeration or freezing for long-term storage.
When reconstituting for research applications, dissolve in appropriate vehicle (DMSO, PEG-400, or other suitable solvent depending on experimental protocol). Prepared solutions should be stored at 2-8°C and used within recommended timeframes based on solvent used.
